Steven Borden and Darby Allin appeared on a local television network this week to promote AEW’s upcoming Blood and Guts show, and during the interview they discussed Borden’s recent scary injury at the All Out pay-per-view event.
During the September 26th event, Borden —son of wrestling legend Sting — teamed up with Darby Allin to take on Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight. Several minutes into the match, Borden had a face-off with Knight as the two men climbed up opposite sides of the ring. The moment
seemed to be an obvious set-up for a moment like the mid-air collision between Logan Paul and Ricochet at the 2023 Royal Rumble.
Unfortunately, the timing appeared to be off, and Borden jumped earlier than Knight, resulting in him hitting the back of his head when he landed on the mat. AEW’s medical staff quickly attended to Borden, and the match was called off.
Borden and Allin, AEW’s TNT Champion, will join forces again on Wednesday when they team up with Will Ospreay, The Young Bucks, and Adam Copeland to take on Kazuchika Okada, Kevin Knight, Kyle Fletcher, Jake Doyle, Mark Davis, and Wardlow in the men’s “Blood and Guts” steel cage match.
Chatting on First Coast News, an NBC-affiliated station in Jacksonville, Florida, Borden spoke about returning to action following the All Out incident.
“It feels great to be back. So I got concussed, and I was knocked out for a little bit,” he said.
His comment resulted in Darby humorously interjecting in disbelief. He said: “A little bit? You were snoring for six minutes straight!
“I was there in the ring. We had to stop the match live on pay-per-view. Stop the match and he’s out there snoring and I was, ‘Steven?’ Yeah, it wasn’t a little bit.”
Borden went on to describe more of how he felt after the concussion.
“It’s weird though. With injuries, you’re sidelined. Normally, you can feel it. You tore something in your knee or whatever, and so you know as much as you wanna get back in the action, you can’t,” he said. “But for me, I felt fine.”
He continued: “So it’s just this weird thing of like, I wanted to be back out there but I couldn’t, and now that I’m back, it feels pretty dang good.”
