After the Los Angeles Rams defeated the New York Giants in Week 2, Sean McVay was asked why his team looked so much stronger in Week 2 compared to how the team looked in Week 1? L.A.’s head coach expressed that sometimes you win, and sometimes you learn, before adding that sometimes “you have a dumbass coach” who “makes travel plans that put you in a bad spot.”
It’s a revealing quote as McVay seems to make light, yet admits that the plans to travel to Australia about one day before their game against
the San Francisco 49ers was a poor choice. Will the Rams ever make travel arrangements like that again? That remains to be seen.
What we do seemingly now know is that McVay admits their plans for the Week 1 game in Australia were a mistake, he also expressed that he feels L.A. has the right players to respond from a loss the right way.
Said McVay when asked why his team looked better against the New York Giants than the 49ers:
“We got the right people. Yeah, I think, you know, sometimes you win, sometimes you learn. And, you know, sometimes you have a dumbass coach that, you know, makes travel plans that put you in a bad spot”.
It’s early in the season, and the Rams may lose again, as soon as their matchup in Week 3, however McVay shows confidence that not only can this team respond to a loss, but they have the players to win. As long as their “dumbass” coach doesn’t mess things up for team, then the Rams should have a real chance to get to where they want to go.
Of course, to McVay’s credit, where would this team be without him? McVay isn’t a dumbass, but he can and does make mistakes, and he owns them. We’ll see what other lessons this team can learn and apply in 2026.
