Germany’s September roster for World Cup Qualifying has three new faces: FC Augsburg keeper Finn Dahmen (27), Eintracht Frankfurt defender Nnamdi Collins (21), and Mainz 05 winger Paul Nebel (22).
“The three of them deserve it,” head coach Julian Nagelsmann stated in comments captured via @iMiaSanMia. “Finn has been a consistent Bundesliga goalkeeper for years and has had a very interesting career path; he’s already had to overcome some hurdles. Nnamdi played a great U21 EUROs and racked up plenty
of playing time in Frankfurt. He has good qualities and a good body, and has played full-back and center-back. And Paul was one of the most noticeable players at the U21 EUROs and also last season at Mainz.”
For Dahmen, it is his third season starting at Augsburg, but he figures to be the third keeper in the current pecking order behind Oliver Baumann and Alexander Nübel. Collins and Nebel are the latest crop of youngsters to break into the team and will be hoping to make their mark fast to stick around. Nebel, in particular, faces an always crowded pool of German attackers…while former Borussia Dortmund academy player Collins offers intriguing versatility in defense given Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich’s move back to midfield.
Germany plays Slovakia on September 4th and Northern Ireland on September 7th.
