With our Miami Dolphins having the weekend off, I asked the following question this past week:
What changes or adjustments do you think our Miami Dolphins should make, or must make, during their bye week? These changes could be anything from picking up or trading for a player, letting a player go, elevating a new starter or starters from backup positions, coaching changes, playbook adjustments, new roles for old players, etc.
Below are some of your thoughts and answers-
Bill Moody says Just keep on
keepin’ on and get through this ugly season as healthy as possible.
Stay the course. Just get though the season and try not to get anyone injured. Maybe try to pick up a game agains the Jets or Chargers… otherwise, just make it through the season healthy and don’t try to do too much.
phinette wants to see a better pass rush, even if we just need to scheme it into being.
- Find creative ways to improve our pass rush.
- Develop a plan for the pass game that plays to Malik’s strengths.
- Continue to evaluate special teams players
- Comb practice squads and waiver wires for new players
- Send our scouts to as many college games as possible. We’re going to have a high pick.
Finfan4life88 is ready to move on from the starting QB.
Its very simple bench Malik. Give McCord a shot. Can’t be worse than Willis. Im sure McCord has better processing, mechanics, pocket presence and accuracy. Also I’m sure McCord hits his open receivers instead of staring down his first read or throwing off his back foot and sailing throws for ints in bunches
Fishfan67 sounds out on Malik.
Malik should be working with his receivers on their timing. Not throwing a ball Tuesday was asinine. Not seeming to care about improving with teammates by the looks of it. Just saying
Luvs2drnk just wants to see Willis put in the time with his wideouts to develop better chemistry.
I don’t think there’s any specific adjustments that need to be made. I think Willis needs to spend the next week and a half spending extra time with his receivers and try to develop some chemistry and timing. So everybody is on the same page and understand what is expected of them.
Phoenix6 wants to see more blitzing from the defense and more creativity from the offense.
More blitzing! About 33% of the time. This will help with the sack potential. Augmenting the the D-line from the Corner, the Safety & of course from the Linebacker position. This would also lessen the time D-Backs have to be attached to WRs.
Feed the opponent a heavy load of Gordon II. Most especially off the ends & on Sweeps. Put Bell in the slot position. Use Washington on end-arounds, Reverses & on short routes… letting him be shifty… gotta get shifty. It’d be like trying to catch a greased pig. Instruct Willis to run, & run more. Design QB run plays. Bring back the Wildcat offensive with Kaytron Allen, Ollie & Willis in the backfield.
Put the sting on them…
Gllmiaspr has some offensive adjustments to make.
Three simple adjustments which I hope make a huge difference.
- A lot more passing snaps from the shotgun.
- More plays where the primary receiver runs less than 10 yards. If they need ideas look at Burrows playbook.
- When the play breakdown and there is no one open run the ball. Run as if your career depended on it. Because it does.
Dolfanjoe is another on board with staying the course and wants the front office to keep churning the bottom of the roster in search of hidden gems.
Stay the Course ! Continue looking for players, if the ones we have do not get it done audition all year long for players with promise. Only advantage we actually have is losing and getting that first or second pick in the draft. And of course finding those hidden gems under the rocks. All year long raiding other teams practice squads should yield us a few bright spots. All is not lost !
Dolphster just wants the coaches and front office to keep assessing the players currently on the roster.
Just keep evaluating players that you think are potential building blocks for the future. If someone is starting that you know is not part of your long term plans, sit them down (or trade them if they have any value) and put someone in that you need to assess for the future.
There’s no consensus, but some of us want the front office to keep doing what it’s doing, while others hope to see more creativity on offense and for Willis to keep working on his connection with his receivers. I am with the keep-on-keeping-on at this point. The players we have seem to be improving week over week, but it’ll take at least one more offseason for this roster to be where it needs to be. As always, thank you to each of you who took the time to join in on our Phinsider Question Of The Day post. Please join us tomorrow for our live NFL games thread in lieu of the standard Dolphins live thread.
