As the Cowboys prepare to play the Packers, they will have to do so without linebacker DeMarvion Overshown. Two powerful offenses will face each in that game, with Dak Prescott and Jordan Love running the show.
Mike Pettine will help with the defense in his first game on the Cowboys coaching staff. And will James Houston finally get a chance to play?
Will DeMarvion Overshown Play vs Packers? Cowboys Make Official Decision – Josh Sanchez, Yahoo Sports
Agent 0 still not ready for a return to the field.
We are just over 24 hours away from the Dallas Cowboys suiting up in primetime for the second straight
week for Sunday Night Football against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. Unfortunately for the Cowboys, they will be without a key member of the defense yet again.Starting linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, who has been out of action since suffering a hamstring injury in the season-opening loss to the New York Giants, will once again be watching from the sideline in Week 6.
Cowboys vs. Packers prediction: Dak Prescott, Jordan Love set for high-flying showdown on ‘SNF – Grant Podell, CBS Sports
The football forecast is predicting a flurry of points when the Cowboys face the Packers.
Cowboys vs. Packers prediction
Despite Porter Jr. likely returning to action for Dallas in Week 6, their defense won’t be able to stifle Love, Watson and Golden through the air. Whichever receiver between Watson and Golden that cornerback DaRon Bland, who has struggled with his footing on the field of late, will break free for big gains on a consistent basis. Yes, the Cowboys do have the NFL’s No. 7 scoring offense (27.6 points per game) powered by Prescott, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, wide receiver George Pickens and running back Javonte Williams.
Cowboys have 5 sacks. Why is James Houston still watching?, Inside the Star – Cody Warren
James Houston, we have a problem.
James Houston Already Produced in a Limited Role
Houston finished last season with 5.5 sacks while only playing 307 defensive snaps. That was only about 28% of Dallas’ defensive plays, or about 18 snaps per game. He contributed more than most players without having a starter’s workload. I like that his pass rush numbers make his production much more interesting. James Houston rushed the quarterback 182 times and generated 25 pressures. That means he hurried, hit, or sacked the quarterback about once every seven snaps. His sack numbers work out to one sack every 33 rushes.
Mike Pettine on fixing Cowboys D, aiding Christian Parker: ‘It’s a million little things’ – Todd Brock, Cowboys Wire
Newly added senior defensive assistant weighed in on what’s happening with the Cowboys defense.
The Cowboys are trying to fix their foundering defense on the fly and save their season, with fans and analysts alike trying to figure out everything from where Pettine will be stationed on gameday (the coaches’ booth) to who he reports to (Brian Schottenheimer, not Parker) to what exactly his job will entail. “I think the role will just kind of grow as it goes,” Pettine admitted. “Football’s a game of a million little things. There’s no one magic play to run. It’s a lot of the detail stuff. There’s been taking a lot of notes; it’s not something where, ‘Hey, we’re going to do these 30 things different today,’ but it’s things that need to get addressed.”
Cowboys need to approach the next two games as must wins – Matthew Lenix, Blogging the Boys
After losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in an “emabrassing” fashion, the Cowboys have to lock in to win these upcoming games.
Since the playoff extension in 1990, 155 teams have started the season with a 2-5 record. Only nine of those teams have made the postseason, which is 5.81%. It’s just a very deep hole to dig out of and the Cowboys still have teams like the San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks, Los Angeles Rams, and Jacksonville Jaguars on their schedule. Those teams have the flaws as well, but they’ll also be extremely difficult to beat. The he Cowboys need to adopt a back against the wall mentality going forward and stack up some wins quickly.
