Heading into the 2026-27 season, Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola looked to have been a lack of options in midfield that had plenty on the outside feeling nervous. There was some hope, though—nervous, cautious, but hope—around young Trey Nyoni.
Liverpool had signed him as a 16-year-old from Leicester City, eventually paying a fee of around £1M set by tribunal after the two cubs couldn’t agree compensation, and he was widely seen as a highly promising prospect.
Promise, though, is a long way from the
now 19-year-old being expected to be a difference maker. That’s exactly what he’s been, though, with the midfielder having started the club’s last two games and on pace to record close to 2,000 minutes of first team action this season.
Nyoni is also reportedly in line for a new contract, with the player said to be close to agreeing a new long-term deal with the club as Liverpool push to ensure his long-term future is in Red.
Last summer saw Nottingham Forest test Liverpool’s belief in Nyoni when they floated a £30M offer for the England youth international, but that approach was rebuffed instantly with Liverpool signalling they saw Nyoni as a key part of their future plans.
