World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk is back in the main event of WrestleMania this year, and he couldn’t feel better about how his return to WWE has worked out. That begs the question, does the 47-year-old star have any regrets about not coming back to WWE sooner after walking out in 2014 (and then going to AEW in 2021)?
That’s one of the questions CM was asked during his latest appearance on the No-Contest Wrestling Podcast. Punk points the finger at Vince McMahon while explaining why he has no regrets.
“I mean I’ll just go ahead and say it. Vince [McMahon] was still here. I don’t think anything was ever gonna change, for me at least. So, no.”
Ever the pro, CM makes sure to take a shot at his WrestleMania 42 opponent Roman Reigns while talking about his 10 year absence from WWE.
“Can I think about, man, that’s 10 years. Oh, I could’ve worked with AJ [Styles] a whole bunch. I could have done more with [John] Cena.
I think I did pretty good. Tribal Chief says he graciously scaled back for two years. Well, I graciously stepped back for ten, and it took him that long to become the superstar that he is. So, I got no regrets.”
One reason why Punk has no regrets is because he already had a “solid” Hall of Fame level career prior to his WWE return.
“If I never came back to wrestling, I still think I had a pretty solid career. The stuff I did with Cena. My match with Taker. The Straight Edge Society stuff. Matches with Rey [Mysterio]. The Jeff Hardy feud. It was already a Hall of Fame career chock full of moments. I’m almost being unfair now. I’m just piling ’em up, you know?”
With former colleagues like John Cena and AJ Styles both recently retiring in their late 40’s, Punk was asked about when he may decide to call it quits. The world champ said he’s not sure, but it won’t be any time soon.
“I don’t think it’s gonna be any time soon…I’m just trying to keep myself in one piece, because I feel like I’m on the run of my life. I think I’m doing the best work I’ve ever done. Why would I want to step away from that now?”
Do you agree that CM Punk is on the run of his life right now in WWE? Let me know in the comments below, Cagesiders.
