Dillon Danis may be out, but that doesn’t change the plan for Mike Perry.
On Saturday, Perry headlines Dual Arena’s first MMA event, fighting in Orlando, FL. Perry was supposed to take on Misfits champion and combat sports lightning rod Dillon Danis to headline the event, but shortly before their press conference on Thursday, it was revealed that Danis had withdrawn from the event, alleging injury.
Still, the show must go on, and instead, Perry will now fight Brandon Jenkins in the main event, and after
the two faced off for the first time at ceremonial weigh-ins on Friday, Perry was his usual, intense self.
“I told him he shouldn’t have came,” Perry said. “But the people, they need the blood sacrifice, so we’ve got to feed them the blood sacrifice. He’s a big guy. I’ve got a lot of energy, and I worked so f*cking hard for this shit! That pussy ain’t come, and I’ve gotta f*cking knock [Jenkins] out!”
Jenkins, meanwhile, was very good-natured about the whole thing. During their faceoff, while Perry was getting intense, Jenkins was smiling and having a good time, even faking a kiss for Perry’s fist during their final pose.
“Mike gave me a chance to be great, so I’m gonna take it,” Jenkins said. “I think everybody should fight like that. I’m gonna go out there and try to be as violent or more violent than him, so you guys are in for a treat.”
A veteran of the UFC and PFL, Jenkins most recently competed this summer, winning a split decision over Chris Avila at MVP’s Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano event.
Dual Arena 1 takes place on Saturday night at the Kia Center in Orlando.
