The No. 2 Texas Longhorns team hosted the No. 9 TCU Horned Frogs on the Forty Acres on Wednesday and swept the Horned Frogs 3-0 in the twenty-seventh meeting of the in-state rivals, extending the undefeated streak for the Longhorns to seven games in the 2025 season.
In the first set, the No. 2 Longhorns went on a 6-0 run with the aid of junior libero Ramsey Gary recording her second ace of the 2025 season. Texas continued to put pressure on the No. 9
Horned Frogs’ defense with a dump kill from junior setter Ella Swindle, a service ace from junior outside hitter Torrey Stafford, and a block from true freshman middle blocker Taylor Harvey, extending the Longhorns lead to 10, making the first set, 13-3. The Longhorns defense stayed steady gathering digs and rallying behind true freshman outside hitter Cari Spears with the help of senior libero Emma Halter snagging an ace pushing the score to 20-9. The TCU offense showed sparks, but the inability to produce a good first touch after hurt TCU in the opening set, a 25-12 win for Texas.
The second set stayed neck to neck with three lead exchanges and 10 ties between the two top-10 ranked teams. A 6-0 run for the Longhorns aided by Harvey with a kill and block assist turned the set for the Longhorns, 16-12. TCU’s offense battled the Texas defense, narrowing the score to two, 17-15, with the aid of the sophomore outside hitter Evan Hendrix. The Longhorns eventually closed out the second set with senior outside hitter Devin Kahahawai landing a kill for a 25-17 margin.
In the third set the score was 5-5 with the help of true freshman outside hitter Abby Vander Wal adding a kill to her stats with three more kills shortly after Stafford served an ace to give the Longhorns the lead, 10-7. The Horned Frogs fought valiantly to a tie in the final set, 14-14, but the offensive physicality helped the Longhorns regain and extend the lead with help of true freshman Abby Vander Wal’s 11 kills on the night to end the match with a final, 25-18.
