The offense was already in post-season form as the Philadelphia Phillies (87-71) were stifled by the Milwaukee Brewers (99-59) on Wednesday night in the middle stanza of their penultimate series of the regular season.
Aaron Nola was responsible for all four of the Brewers’ runs, surrendering solo home runs to Brice Turang and Christian Yelich in the first and second innings and a two-run single to William Contreras in the third.
The Phillies loaded the bases with no outs against Brewers’ starter, Logan Henderson, in the bottom of the second but came away with just one run on a ground out by JT Realmuto.
11 Phillies reached base on six hits, four walks and a hit-by-pitch against Kyle Schwarber but were 0-12 with runners in scoring position, their worst mark of the season.
Though he accounted for the lone RBI, Realmuto is mired in the worst hitless streak of his career, which reached 26 at-bats.
The magic number remains at two but could be down to one tomorrow pending the tonight’s results in Colorado and Los Angeles.
Milwaukee is slated to throw a bullpen game tomorrow in pursuit of their first ever 100 win season as the Phils turn to Andrew Painter to win the series and potentially punch their ticket to the playoffs.
