According to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, the consensus around league circles at this time seems to be that the Indianapolis Colts will keep star running back Jonathan Taylor through Tuesday’s upcoming trade deadline.
Specifically, per Schultz, no suitor, besides the New York Giants, has offered a second round pick, plus extra, in a trade package—which means no one has come up to meet the Colts premium draft capital request for Taylor:
There’s been multiple national reports earlier this week that the Colts are either requesting a ‘Christian McCaffrey-esque’ haul for Taylor or a future first round outright for a team to successfully acquire him via trade.
It’s also been reported that Colts team owner and CEO Carlie Irsay-Gordon really values Taylor as a player and person and potentially considers him a cornerstone of their recently jumpstarted rebuild. It would take a lot for the Colts to part with their star workhorse, and so far, no one has met their ideal asking price to actually move him.
The 27-year-old running back has 148 carries for 610 rushing yards (4.1 ypc. avg.) and 8 rushing touchdowns through all 8 starts during the 2026 campaign.
It’ll be interesting to see if the Colts provide him a lighter rushing workload this Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys, as his reps were scaled back against the Jacksonville Jaguars last week.
Some of that could be to keep Taylor fresher down the stretch (and to lessen his mileage during another lost season), but it also very well could be to potentially avoid major injury, in case a suitor caves, and the Colts surprisingly get their running back ‘king’s ransom’ before the trade deadline—dealing Taylor in the process.
