With two losses already, the No. 10 Texas Longhorns have a simple path to the postseason — win and you’re in the College Football Playoff.
A big part of why that is the likeliest scenario for Texas to make
it in is by simple virtue of the team on the horizon, the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs. The Horns can not only put themselves in the driver’s seat for the postseason, but can stomp out one of the biggest narratives hanging over from last year, the two losses to the Bulldogs. Texas definitely played them tighter in the SEC Championship than they did during the regular season matchup in Austin, but 0-2 against the Bulldogs can quickly turn into “Will Texas ever beat Georgia?” if the outcome of this game is less than favorable.
Georgia has been a bit of a comeback specialist this year, needing all 60 minutes — and in some cases overtime — to win many of their games. There are many ways to interpret their need for late-game heroics, but when they needed their key players to make key plays in key situations, they almost always had an answer.
