Triple-A: Syracuse Mets (79-67)
SYRACUSE 9, LEHIGH VALLEY 8 (BOX)
This was a wild game, especially in the early innings. Lehigh Valley got on the board first with a two-run home run in the top of the first, but Syracuse answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Not to be outdone. Lehigh Valley scored thee in the top of the second—with all five of those runs coming against Jack Wenninger—before Syracuse put up four runs in the bottom of that inning.
With a 7-5 lead heading into the third, Syracuse gave up two runs in the top
of the inning, leaving the game tied as it went to the bottom of the inning, during which Syracuse scored one run—on a solo home run by Jefferson Rojas, his third home run in as many Triple-A games—to retake the lead. Lehigh Valley tied it right back up with a run in the top of the fourth, and the bottom of the fourth was the first scoreless half-inning of the game.
Shockingly, from that point onward, this game only had one more run in it. Rojas drove in Kevin Parada with a sacrifice fly that turned out to be the decisive run. And all of that leaves Syracuse 1.5 games back of both Rochester and Indianapolis in the second-half standings, which means a postseason spot is still in play. But it’ll require a good amount of help over the final three games of the season.
