On the Oct. 26 Raw, Ethan Page and Big Cass tagged together for the first time in WWE. The pair worked together occasionally in AEW, and for a time were stablemates in The Firm. Page and Cass’ clearly had chemistry, picking up a win over Chad Gable and Dragon Lee on last Monday’s show.
Rusev is another former AEW star now with WWE, and he was working with Page before he got hurt in July. The Bulgarian Brute recently confirmed reports he’s ready to get back on television whenever Triple H and the creative
team have plans for him.
Last week, a report from Self Made PW (via SI.com’s The Takedown) said those plans were set, and involve Rusev linking up with Cass and Page to form a new faction on Raw.
Monday nights have been faction-heavy of late. The Judgment Day’s been around for a while, and were followed by The Vision. The Bloodline have set-up shop on Raw, and that brought 946. We wouldn’t be shocked to see WWE add another group to the mix. Roman Reigns and crew are the only nominally babyface stable on the show, but they’ve already worked one of the other teams (The Vision), are in the middle of a program with another (946), and don’t have any reason to beef with the third (Judgment Day). So it’s conceivable Rusev, Cass, and All Ego could be gearing up to be next for The Bloodline.
But Fightful Select reports that if there were plans for a Rusev, Cass, Page stable, no one told Rusev, Cass, or Page about them.
And TMZ’s Inside The Ring asked Rusev about the rumor directly. He criticized it as a lazy idea, and then explained why his character wouldn’t go for it (he didn’t even get into Cass’ history with Lana from his days with Enzo):
“It’s very internet booking. No, we have one, two, three bad guys. Let’s put them together. I have not heard anything about this, but also I don’t know if I’m okay with it either. I left for a couple of months. I got hurt, then I got the sickness, then I have the kid, and Page just goes out there and finds another tall guy to back him up.
”Like, f you, bro. You never called me, you never texted me, you never checked on me. You’re just going to go and find yourself a big goof. Good for you. I don’t want to be associated with people like that.“
Rusev went on to take some shots at the dirt sheets, but ultimately reminded us that both Self Made and Fightful could be right:
“Everything [in WWE] is just changing by the hour, by the minute, by the day. It all depends on who’s on what mood as well. So, whatever. Maybe somebody got the right report, but then somebody says, ‘Oh, you know, let’s move away from that.’ And then they move away from it.”
And of course, if WWE was about to debut a Rusev/Page/Cass group, all three men would deny it, because this is pro wrestling we’re talking about here. But I’m still betting we never see that group — at least not in that form, or any time soon.
What do you make of the path this rumor’s taken? You think Rusev returns to ally himself with Ethan Page and Big Cass tonight?
