College Football Playoff Expansion talks continue.
It’s the topic that never ends. It just goes on and on my friends.
Expect things to heat up again after the season is over, but for now, the CFP will stay at 12 in 2026. However, the 24 model that is being thrown around isn’t off the table for future seasons, although not every P4 leader is on board with that idea. As usual, every person in the room is out to protect their own interests, which makes it hard for things to move forward.
Athletic Rankings
Chris Vannini is ranking every team, and San Diego State is still on top of the Mountain West, which is up to 37th overall. UNLV also cracks the top 50 at 47th, followed by a run of MW teams with New Mexico (57th), Fresno State (60th), Boise State (61st), and Hawaii (69th). After that is a big gap until Utah State at 106th, followed by Air Force at 118th, Wyoming at 119th, and then the bottom-feeders of Nevada (125), San Jose State (126), and Colorado State (128).
Athlon Bowl Projections
Bowl games are drawing closer, and the projections are becoming clearer. San Diego State is once again LA Bowl bound, with UNLV still in the Potato Bowl. Hawaii and New Mexico will stay home in their respective bowl games, and Boise State is going to the First Responder Bowl. The Arizona Bowl will host Fresno State, and while Utah State had made a bowl game, Athlon didn’t seem to get the memo yet.
