While most of the country was facing down a cold front this week, several Ohio State winter sports teams were heating up, delivering big plays and big wins in both men’s and women’s basketball, men’s wrestling and more.
If you missed any of the action, don’t worry. I’ve rounded up the highlights for you below:
John Mobley Jr. has fourth consecutive 20+ point game as men’s basketball tops Penn State, 84-78
With 25 points, including five three-pointers, five assists and three steals, sophomore guard John
Mobley Jr. logged his fourth consecutive game in which he scored 20 or more points, this time leading the Buckeyes to a home win, 84-78, over Penn State.
Despite carrying a 50-32 lead into halftime, the Nittany Lions managed to get within one in the second half, when Mobley answered with back-to-back threes, putting the Buckeyes back on the path to victory.

No. 2 men’s wrestling remains undefeated after dramatic win at No. 6 Nebraska
Ohio State took a 14-0 lead on the road at Nebraska last weekend before dropping five consecutive matches to force a sudden victory in the final match of the game. With Nebraska leading, 16-14, the Buckeyes’ undefeated season came down to No. 3 Nick Feldman against the Huskers’ No. 4 AJ Ferrari.
If Feldman v. Ferrari sounds like a movie, it might as well have been. With the match tied, 1-1, Feldman’s late takedown of Ferrari sealed the win for the Buckeyes, 17-16.
It was the Buckeyes’ seventh top 10 victory this season, their sixth on the road. Watch Feldman’s victory-clinching takedown here:
Jaloni Cambridge comes up big with 29 points in women’s basketball win over Wisconsin
Though Wisconsin jumped out to an early lead, a strong second half performance across the board carried the Buckeyes to victory, 81-58, in Thursday’s matchup with Wisconsin. All 10 Buckeyes scored points in the game, but none shone as brightly as Jaloni Cambridge, who put up 29 points in the victory, 21 of which came in the second half.
Cambridge scored 13 points in less than four-and-a-half minutes in the third quarter, going on an 8-0 run, and also scored the first seven points of the final quarter in what marked her third consecutive 20+-point game.
