With the injuries to tight ends Tucker Kraft, Luke Musgrave, Luke Lachey and R.J. Maryland, the Green Bay Packers were in a pinch for bodies at the position going into Tuesday’s practice. It had already been reported that the team signed McCallan Castles, a former practice squadder from the 2025 team, to help them while their tight end room was banged up. On Tuesday, though, it was revealed that the Packers had apparently signed another tight end, too: Drew Biber.
Like Castles, Biber had worked out
with Green Bay last week, one of six tight ends that the team brought in throughout the week. Between Castles, Biber and international exemption Thomas Yassmin, the Packers have now signed half of the tight ends from that batch of workouts.
Here was what we wrote about Biber following the announcement of his workout:
Like Beetham, Biber is another 2026 UDFA. He participated at the American Bowl with Team Guardians, where he shared the tight end room with Packers signing R.J. Maryland.
Biber played at Purdue for four seasons before transferring to Minnesota for his senior year. He posted 33 receptions for 271 yards (8.2 per) and a touchdown in his college career. He was listed as the 37th tight end in the 2026 class per The Beast, which reported that he was 6’3.5” and 247 pounds at his pro day and ran a 4.88-second 40-yard dash.
Neither R.J. Maryland, who is dealing with a hamstring injury, nor Luke Lachey, who was seen on a scooter and wearing a boot after practice yesterday, were seen at practice on Tuesday, so the assumption right now is that the team has waived those players to make room for the additions of Castles and Biber. The Packers’ roster was full going into the day, so two corresponding roster moves need to be made for Castles and Biber to join the team.
