Chelsea Women make their League Cup debut this season, taking on Liverpool away in the quarter-finals this Sunday. We finally got it back in our hands last term after three consecutive finals’ defeats,
and there’s no room for complacency as the holders begin their defence against a side stretched thin but still dangerous on home soil.

Venue: St Helens Stadium, St Helens, Merseyside, England

Liverpool team news: Since their 1-1 draw to Chelsea in Women’s Super League the Reds have only won once in four matches. That single win was a 4-1 beating of Sheffield United that got them this Women’s League Cup quarter-finals spot.
Unlike Chelsea the hosts have a lot of injuries to worry about. Defender Grace Fisk is edging closer but remains unlikely to feature, while striker Leanne Kiernan and centre-back Hannah Silcock are both major doubts. Another defender, Gemma Bonner, is unavailable through suspension; and goalkeeper Rafaela Borggräfe also remains sidelined. They are also without longer-term absentees, in a list including midfielder Marie Höbinger.
Chelsea team news: A 2-1 scoreline is often nothing to write home about when it’s Chelsea winning a match. But in the case of our last match against Wolfsburg in the UEFA Women’s Champions League that’s the exact opposite case as we showed tenacity and resilience against a very tough opponent.
Becca Spencer and Catarina Macario are expected back in contention for this upcoming match. However Keira Walsh, who had a calf issue during our Wolfsburg clash, will require an pre-match assessment before Sonia Bompastor decides whether or not to rely on her talents against Liverpool.
Previously: We share the spoils in a 1-1 draw at St. Helens Stadium, just a one month ago in the Women’s Super League.
