One of the more annoying consequences of WWE’s business relationship with ESPN is that super obnoxious talking head Stephen A. Smith now has a bigger presence in pro wrestling media. He’s interviewing WWE wrestlers so often that there are even rumors and reports that WWE might be coming up with some kind of creative plan for Smith.
During an interview today on Stephen A. Smith Sports, WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque admitted that he would love to book Stephen A in WWE whenever he’s
ready to make it happen. This topic came up after Smith said Paul Heyman has “my spot” in WWE and is “the one person I don’t know if I’m ready for yet. I think I can talk smack with the best of them, but that man is next level.”
Triple H responded with dollar signs in his eyes:
“He is the man in our world when it comes to running his mouth, and I do say you are up there with yours…I’m waiting. You tell me when I pull that trigger. Paul Heyman versus Stephen A, that is the money, man. That is the money…we’re gonna do it.
…Believe me, I’m gonna pay to see that war. I want to see it.”
Hopefully Triple H is joking, or only referring to a one-off promo battle, but I wouldn’t rule out the possibility that Heyman vs. Smith is actually in the works in WWE. Any fans who aren’t on board with that novel creative idea probably take WWE too seriously and don’t realize it’s just fun, after all.
To what extent do you think we’ll see a segment, angle, or match in WWE featuring some form of Paul Heyman vs. Stephen A. Smith? Let me know if this is the kind of fun you want from WWE programming in the comments below, Cagesiders.
