Say goodbye to “Do Bronx.”
No, Charles Oliveira is not retiring. A recent interview that was mis-translated suggested he was already planning out his last bout, but the Brazilian fighter said he has no intention of laying down his gloves any time soon.
“The retirement talk is in your guys’ head,” Oliveira told MMA Junkie in a new interview. “I’ve never said anything about retiring … Every interview I give, people talk ‘retirement, retirement.’ At no point have I ever thought or contemplated about that,
but all the questions are the same. I’m not thinking about it.”
He will, however, be changing his legendary nickname from “Do Bronx,” — honoring his favela roots — to “Predator” for his upcoming UFC Rio fight against Mateusz Gamrot on October 11th.

“In the hunt for the strongest, there is only room for a Predator,” Charles wrote on Instagram. “So as of now it’s Charles the Predator here and in the octagon. A fighter who, like me, faces any challenge head on, always ready for whatever comes next. Only this time the mission is to confront the greatest of enemies and restore the respect of a people.”
How serious is Oliveira? He seemed to be testing out a new nickname for his fight against Ilia Topuria, repeatedly dropping “Iluminado” and even wearing some insane bling with the same inscription.
This time, though, it’s part of a sponsorship deal to promote the upcoming Predator movie coming out soon.
“Predator: Wild Lands November 6 in theaters,” Oliveira finished his nickname change post before tagging the 20th Century Studios Brazil account.
We hope he’s getting paid good money for this promotional tie in, but we also hope this doesn’t last long. Don’t mess with “Do Bronx!”
