In what was an extremely scrappy but thrilling fixture, Bayern Munich barely edged past an in-form Borussia Dortmund to win 3-2 in Signal Iduna Park. The game was set to be a thriller from the very start, with Bayern pouncing on balls, threatening Gregor Kobel and keeping Dortmund on their toes.
However, in the instances that their visitors faltered, Dortmund were lethal and sure to remind the opposition of their capacity and their home strength. The two goals from Dortmund, though fantastic, were not
enough to hold off Bayern and their talisman Harry Kane, who scored a brace to bring Bayern closer to the win. A final goal from Joshua Kimmich sealed the deal for Bayern and they now hold a 11-point margin over Dortmund in the title race.
Following the victory, Kane spoke on the importance of this win and expressed his delight in the game.
“It’s a huge win for us in this title race,” the striker said, per @iMiaSanMia.
“We managed to come back from behind, we played our game and knew they would be tired after playing midweek,” he said, referring to Dortmund’s midweek game against Atalanta.
“We never gave up. It’s really special to come and win here. We can be proud of this win,” he declared.
The game truly was a testament of Bayern’s resilience and even if not one of their more picturesque wins, is certainly one to remember. This was not only crucial for the title race, but also to cement the team’s confidence, especially in the midst of an injury crisis.
