The Green Bay Packers will need to do at least a little bit of reshuffling before they get into the postseason. Most importantly, they only have one healthy tight end on the roster right now, Luke Musgrave, while Matt LaFleur’s teams generally like to roster three or four at the position, because of how many multiple-tight-end sets that they play.
Below is your roster breakdown:
- QB-2: Jordan Love and Malik Willis
- RB-3: Josh Jacobs, Emanuel Wilson and Chris Brooks
- WR-7: Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, Matthew Golden, Bo Melton and Savion Williams
- TE-2: Luke Musgrave and Josh Whyle
- OL-9: Rasheed Walker, Aaron Banks, Sean Rhyan, Anthony Belton, Zach Tom, Darian Kinnard, Jordan Morgan, Jacob Monk and Donovan Jennings
- DE-7: Kingsley Enagbare, Rashan Gary, Lukas Van Ness, Brenton Cox Jr., Barryn Sorrell, Collin Oliver and Arron Mosby
- DT-6: Karl Brooks, Colby Wooden, Warren Brinson, Jordon Riley, Nazir Stackhouse and Quinton Bohanna
- LB-5: Quay Walker, Edgerrin Cooper, Isaiah McDuffie, Ty’Ron Hopper and Kristian Welch
- CB-4: Keisean Nixon, Carrington Valentine, Nate Hobbs and Kamal Hadden
- S-5: Xavier McKinney, Evan Williams, Javon Bullard, Zayne Anderson and Kitan Oladapo
- K-1: Brandon McManus
- P-1: Daniel Whelan
- LS-1: Matt Orzech
Yes, I counted Bo Melton as a receiver. Until he takes a regular-season defensive snap, it’s easier to just brand him as a receiver than
as a cornerback.
The biggest bloat that the roster has right now, in terms of numbers, is on the defensive line. After adding Jordon Riley and Quinton Bohanna at defensive tackle, following the loss of Devonte Wyatt, and the activations of Brenton Cox Jr. and Collin Oliver, the Packers are basically just squeaking by, numbers-wise, at every position on the roster other than receiver to keep 13 defensive linemen on the 53-man roster.
If I could make one change to the team right now, I would probably add a tight end to the 53 and drop Quinton Bohanna, considering he hasn’t played in a game for the Packers and is on an expiring contract. Meanwhile, backup defensive linemen Lukas Van Ness, Barryn Sorrell, Collin Oliver, Warren Brinson, Jordon Riley and Nazir Stackhouse are still under contract for 2026, and the team will likely try to keep them on the 53-man roster next season.
If the tight end is an interior promotion, one of two practice squad tight ends on the team, the Packers can just keep the 13 defensive linemen and elevate those players on gameday until their three elevation opportunities expire. If the answer is an outside addition (like Marcedes Lewis), Green Bay should have the flexibility to let Bohanna walk.
