Atlético de Madrid head coach Diego Simeone is taking every first-team player with him to Estadio de La Cartuja in Seville, where Atlético will face Real Sociedad in Saturday’s Copa del Rey final.
While all players are traveling for Saturday’s final, Josema Giménez (muscle injury) and Dávid Hancko (ankle) are not expected to feature at La Cartuja as they continue their recoveries from injury. However, Pablo Barrios (thigh) trained normally on Thursday and is
expected to play against La Real.
Completing the squad are Atlético Madrileño full-backs Julio Díaz and Javier Boñar, who combined for a first-team goal last weekend in a 2-1 loss at Sevilla. Madrileño goalkeeper Salvi Esuqivel also travels as the third-choice option in net.
Atlético are seeking to end a domestic trophy drought that stretches five years, and the Rojiblancos are hoping to win this particular title for the first time since 2013. Atleti are coming off an intense, demanding midweek fixture against FC Barcelona, against whom Simeone’s men suffered a 2-1 defeat but advanced to the UEFA Champions League semifinals with a 3-2 aggregate victory.
Real Sociedad have not played since last Saturday’s 3-3 home draw with Deportivo Alavés. La Real have won 11 of 18 games in all competitions since head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo’s arrival in January. The txuri-urdin drew 1-1 with Atlético at Reale Arena in January before Atleti defeated Matarazzo’s men, 3-2, at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano in March.
