Barcelona manager Hansi Flick offered an update on Marc Bernal ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Olympiacos and says the midfielder is not yet ready to play in such high-profile matches.
Bernal is working his way back from a serious knee injury and Flick is determined to look after the youngster properly.
The Barcelona coach says he’s looking for the right matches for Bernal to play in but also told the midfielder he needs to improve in training.
“As I said, we have to take care of him.
We’re not convinced he’s 100% fit to play these games; they’re always very tough, and looking at the games against Sevilla and others, it’s not the best time for him to play again.
“We’ll find games for him to come back, and he also has to improve in training. He’s not at his best for the big games, so we have to help him improve.”
Bernal has made three substitute appearances so far this season but it looks like he’ll have to wait for his next minutes with Olympiacos and Real Madrid up next for Barca.
