After a long offseason, the Dallas Cowboys are back to football in Oxnard, California. With all the new players and coaches, this is one of the more exciting training camps for Cowboys fans in quite some time. To make things even more exciting, Jerry Jones spent a rather large portion of his state of the union press conference talking about the desire to trade future assets for a key defensive piece.
During the conversation, Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby’s name was mention, and the rumor
mill has been swirling ever since. It’s no secret that Jerry Jones is infatuated with Crosby and his impact on the field. The rumor mill picked up even more late on Thursday, when it was reported by Nick Harris that Doctor Dan Cooper, the Cowboys’ team doctor, had an interesting meeting with Jerry and Stephen Jones in a private setting at the conclusion of the Cowboys’ second practice.
We should be clear here, everything that follows is speculation and a game of connecting the dots, but here goes.
Doctor Cooper was one of the medical specialist who examined and reviewed the injury to Crosby’s knee, that ultimately led to the trade with the Baltimore Ravens to fall through. After Jerry’s comments about the Cowboys not being “out” on trading for Crosby, and the mysterious meeting at the end of Thursday’s practice, Cowboys fans can wonder what that conversation was about.
Given the smoke surrounding the Cowboys past interest in Crosby, and Jerry’s comments to kickoff training camp, the gas has been poured on the Crosby-to-Dallas fire. This meeting with Doctor Cooper just adds to it.
Could the Jones’ just be asking Dr. Cooper his thoughts on P.J. Locke’s hyper-extended knee? Or were they asking questions about Crosby’s knee ahead of making a push for the Raiders star edge rusher?
Again, this is just speculation, but we’d love to know your thoughts.
