It has been a fun time getting to know this year’s Kansas City Chiefs at training camp up in St. Joseph, Missouri, so far this summer.
Let’s keep the fun rolling with some superlatives, listing the extremes of the roster in order to get more familiar with the team ahead of a preseason Week 1 game against the Los Angeles Rams next Saturday, August 15th, at Arrowhead Stadium.
Measurables were collected from players’ pre-draft process. Here we go:
Tallest player
Offensive tackle Ethan Driskell — 6 feet 8 3/8 inches tall
The third-year offensive tackle from the University of Marshall has spent most of camp as the third-team right tackle. However, with starting right guard Trey Smith missing practice last week, Driskell got more reps as the second-team right tackle.
Shortest player
Wide receiver Jacob De Jesus — 5 feet 6 inches tall
De Jesus, a receiver and return man from the University of California, has been the most impressive undrafted free agent among this year’s rookie class in camp so far.
That doesn’t mean he will be lucky enough to make the roster. It’s a long shot, one special teams coordinator Dave Toub acknowledged after Saturday’s practice.
“De Jesus is solid, great catcher, just not a real big guy,” Toub acknowledged. “He’s going to be exciting in the preseason games, for sure.”
Heaviest player
Defensive tackle Cole Brevard — 343 pounds
The big nose tackle is an undrafted rookie from the University of Texas. He’ll be hoping his mass shows up in the preseason games, looking to find a spot on the practice squad as a reserve A-gap tackle.
Longest arms
Offensive lineman Matt Waletzko — 36 1/8 inches long
A former Dallas Cowboys fifth-round draft pick, Waletzko appeared in 11 games for Dallas between the 2022 – 2024 seasons. He has spent most of camp on the third-team offensive line, lining up as both a tackle and a guard.
Biggest hands
Offensive tackle Jaylon Moore — 11-inch hand size
The veteran tackle is battling for the right tackle position with rookie Kahlil Benson. Benson had a bigger pre-draft profile than Moore, but Moore has the biggest paws on the team, an underrated trait for holding up in the trenches.
The 3 fastest players
Wide receiver Xavier Worthy — 4.21 seconds in the 40-yard dash
Wide receiver Tyquan Thornton — 4.28 seconds
Wide receiver Omari Evans — 4.28 seconds
We all know the fastest player on the team, but tied for second is undrafted rookie wideout Omari Evans from the University of Washington. He stands 6 feet tall and weighs 190 pounds, showing off explosiveness as well with a 41-inch vertical leap during this year’s pre-draft process.
Quickest acceleration
Wide receiver Jeff Caldwell — 1.48 seconds 10-yard split in the 40-yard dash
Caldwell, a rare athlete from the University of Cincinnati, has been buried on the depth chart during camp, playing mostly with the third-team offense.
The preseason would be an excellent time for Caldwell to show off that acceleration, along with the 42-inch vertical leap and a team-leading broad jump of 134 inches.
Most recently a basketball player
Tight end Mason Pline
From Furman University, Pline found his way into the NFL in the 2024 NFL Draft cycle after one season of football for the Paladins. Before that, Pline played basketball and football at Ferris State University.
He stands over 6 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 251 pounds. He has not seen work with the first team, but Pline has shown off his rebounding skills by reaching for passes down the field with the reserve teams so far in camp.
