After Roma’s flirtation with Mason Greenwood and links to the likes of Endrick, Alejandro Garnacho, Antonio Nusa, and others, it’s no secret that Roma is looking to take a big swing in upgrading Gian Piero Gasperini’s attacking stable. Early in the mercato, Roma was also linked with Dutchman Crysencio Summerville of West Ham. Those links cooled once the Greenwood stories dominated the news cycle and Summerville began being linked with other sides—namely Manchester United.
However, with Greenwood off
to Turkey and a loan move for Garnacho not being Chelsea’s preferred way to offload the Argentine, Summerville’s name began to resurface in recent days. Add in the fact that United now seems to be out of the mix, with Marcus Rashford likely to be reintegrated into the side after his loan spell at Barcelona, and Tony D’Amico saw an opportunity.
And it looks like that opportunity is close to turning into a reality, as Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Roma has made a €46 million offer to West Ham. And that Summerville is open to the move, making the Giallorossi confident in closing the deal.
That feeling has been reinforced by the reporting from Alfredo Pedulla, who goes as far as to say that Summerville is now willing to lower his salary demands to the €4-4.2 million/year range plus bonuses to fit into Roma’s preferred pay structure. Pedulla adds that Roma would like to close the deal by the Monday deadline that was reported last week.
However, just moments ago, Fabrizio Romano reported that Roma’s initial offer of €40 million plus add-ons has been rejected by West Ham. Pedulla added in his reporting that the English side’s valuation is closer to €50 million.
The 24-year-old is coming off a strong showing at the World Cup, where he scored two goals and provided two assists for the Dutch, who were eliminated after just four matches. And it’s that kind of production that has Gasperini feeling he would be the ideal addition to an offense that began humming after the acquisition of countryman Donyell Malen in January.
If Roma wants to make that happen, an increased offer is likely needed, as Romano indicates that Aston Villa is also interested in Summerville following Morgan Rogers’ sale. The Giallorossi would be wise to act quickly to ensure Summerville is feeding Malen this season. So stay tuned.
