Head coach Vic Schaefer has found a replacement for departing talent to the NCAA transfer portal by landing a Friday commitment from former Oklahoma Sooners guard Zya Vann.
The 5’9 guard has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Vann is the daughter of an Oklahoma football player and the younger
sister of former Sooner forward Skylar Vann, the Big 12 Co-Player of the Year in 2024-25. In the 2024 recruiting class, Vanw as ranked as the top player in Oklahoma and a top-50 overall prospect by ESPN after leading Bethany to back-to-back 4A state championships.
As a freshman, Vann played in all 35 games, averaging 6.9 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game while recording 45 steals. Vann showed improvement while moving into the starting lineup in 2025-26, playing 27.6 minutes per game and averaging 10.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 2.1 steals per game. Areas for improvement for Vann include better efficiency as a shooter after hitting 40.5 percent from the floor and 33 percent from three.
Vann is the first transfer portal addition for Texas this offseason following the departures of guards Jordan Lee and Aaliyah Crump.
