For yet another offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers have a big question mark at the quarterback position. With Aaron Rodgers’ future up in the air, the only other two quarterbacks under contract for the Steelers are Mason Rudolph and Will Howard.
Should Rodgers decide that his playing days are over, or that he would like to play elsewhere, Pittsburgh may resort to hitting the trade market for a new signal-caller. One name they could turn to is Kyler Murray of the Arizona Cardinals.
Tyler Sullivan of
CBS Sports labeled the Steelers as a team to watch for Murray, and projects that he could be acquired in exchange for a second-round pick.
“As CBS Sports’ Joel Corry notes, Murray’s situation will need to come to a head before March 15th (the fifth day of the 2026 league year), as that’s when his $19.7 million base salary for 2027 becomes fully guaranteed,” Sullivan writes. “With that in mind, this potential trade could come together early in the offseason. Another factor that could drive a Murray trade is that the quarterback class at the 2026 NFL Draft isn’t particularly strong, so teams may be more inclined to target a veteran like Murray. As for a possible return, the Seahawks secured a third-round pick in exchange for Geno Smith a year ago. When healthy, Murray is a much more talented quarterback, so the Cardinals should be looking at an earlier Day 2 pick in the form of a second-rounder.”
Murray has missed significant time in two of the previous three seasons due to injury. He played in just five games in 2025, throwing six touchdowns to three interceptions and going 2-3 in those five games.
Murray is a two-time Pro Bowl selection, earning nods in 2020 and 2021, the latter of which was the only season he has led Arizona to the postseason.
