Ahead of his start today for the Mets, Robert Stock has been recalled to the major league roster alongside pitcher Bryce Conley. In corresponding moves, Kevin Herget was designated for assignment and Jonathan Pintaro was optioned back to Triple-A Syracuse. Finally, in anticipation of major roster churn over the next 36 hours, the Mets cleared a spot on their 40-man roster by DFAing outfielder MJ Melendez.
Stock, who last pitched in the majors last season for the Red Sox and who made two appearances
for the Mets in 2021, is a 36 year old veteran who has pitched for four big league organizations, had a stint in the KBO, and has been a minor league grinder for years now. When he was signed by the Mets this past offseason, Stock tweeted this:
“I’m 36 years old and have had extremely limited MLB success. And yet MLB teams continue to give me chances. Why? Because I continually find new ways to improve. Newest trick for 2026 – the knucklecurve.”
31-year old Conley has never pitched in the big leagues before, but has been in professional baseball since 2017, when the Athletics drafted him out of Georgia State. With he and Stock both being called up today, this is one of the odder (and older) pairs of pitchers recalled on the same day in recent memory.
Herget, the only alum of his high school or college to ever make the major leagues, pitched a scoreless inning yesterday in his 2026 season debut. This was not his first appearance in a Mets uniform. We’ll see if he clears waivers, or if this will be his last.
Pintaro has appeared in seven games for the Mets over the 2025 and 2026 season, including a two-inning, no-hit appearance yesterday against the Marlins.
Melendez was a quality depth signing in the spring, and the Mets used him early on before A.J. Ewing claimed the everyday role. In 144 plate appearances, Melendez batted .192/.315/.350 with ten extra base hits.
