The Texas Rangers have recalled lefthanded relief pitcher Adam Macko, the team announced today. To make room for him on the active roster, the Rangers have optioned lefthanded relief pitcher Robby Ahlstrom to AAA Round Rock.
Macko, 25, was acquired by the Rangers from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for Josh Smith and Josh Stephan at the trade deadline. Macko was in AAA with the Jays at the time, and was assigned to Round Rock when the Rangers acquired him. His last outing was on August 21, when he struck
out four in three shutout innings for the Express. Macko has a 4.91 ERA in 22 innings over 22 appearances in the majors this season, and a 4.45 ERA in 32.1 IP over 24 appearances in AAA.
Ahlstrom, 27, started the year in AAA, but was called up by the Rangers in early June. He got off to a great start, allowing just one run in his first nine appearances, then hit a rocky patch before putting up 13 straight scoreless outings right after the All Star Break.
In his last six outings, however, he has allowed 10 runs over 5.1 innings, including three home runs. Ahlstrom allowed five runs in an inning of work in the Rangers’ last game, in Chicago.
