They were fantastic in the first half, maintaining a strong defensive block while taking initiative up front, launching threatening counters and testing Bayern’s defense. However, Bayern had the lion’s share of possession and created top-quality chances and eventually made Den Gule Horde pay.
Harry Kane and a certain Michael Olise had a massive role to play in what was a true massacre. A fantastic way to start the season against a strong side.
Speaking after the game to DAZN (UCL coverage, as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Harry Kane highlighted that he was “really happy with the result.” He then explained, “We had to be patient, but I thought we were also better in the first half; their goalkeeper made some good saves. We stayed calm and kept knocking on the door.”
Knocking on the door is an understatement. They eventually just tore the door down with an axe.
Kane continued, “The early goal helped us. We showed last season that we get even stronger as the game advances.” Vincent Kompany’s Bayern has indeed been characterised by a steady increase in tempo as the game progresses, as was witnessed tonight. Simply sensational.
“We wanted to put in a good performance and get the 3 points in front of our fans. I’m happy we did that,” declared the Bayern striker.
