Tonight, it’s a crosstown bash between the 9-6 New York Knicks and the 3-13 Brooklyn Nets. The five-game road trip technically continues for the Knicks, but it’ll happen tonight in familiar territory and against
a far lower squad they should hope to make quick work of.
The Knicks are fresh off the wrong end of a 133-121 drubbing at the hands of the Orlando Magic. As sharp as the offense looked, the defense looked worse. The Magic had 64 points in the paint paired with 13 triples on the night. That spells trouble for New York.
Jalen Brunson had a vintage 33-11 performance, KAT added 24 points of his own, and Mikal Bridges netted 18 points, but it still wasn’t enough.
Also worth mentioning: more trouble on the injury front.
Shamet caught a tough screen with his previously injured shoulder just moments into Saturday’s game. He’ll be out tonight, and his status will be something to monitor closely moving forward. He’s been a key contributor to this Knicks squad early on in the year.
On the other end of the floor, the Brooklyn Nets are just generally bad at basketball. Wins have been hard to come by, and the young team is still looking for any signs of consistency outside of Michael Porter Jr., who has the freedom to shoot the ball just about any time he touches it. A lot of rookies and moving pieces make this yet another rebuilding year for them.
Case in point: these two teams faced off just 15 days ago on November 9th. The Knicks crushed Brooklyn, 134-98. What an ugly final score. The Knicks hit 17 threes. Lovely.
They’ll hope to repeat that performance tonight. 7:30 PM. Barclays. Be there.
Prediction:
Knicks by a million. Let’s make this one simple.
