FC Barcelona manager and former Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick has made a massive decision towards his own net. Elite goalkeeper and veteran Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen is returning from
a sever injury setback but will not be returning as the starting keeper. As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Hansi Flick has decided to keep Joan Garcia as the starting goalkeeper.
A shocking decision that has major implications towards the German national team. Julian Nagelsmann has stood firm on his stance that Ter Stegen would continue forward as the starting goalkeeper for Die Mannschaft. However, his decision is sure to be changed should Ter Stegen remain on the bench for Barca.
This is all good news surely for Oliver Baumann, who will most likely retain his position as the national team’s starting goalkeeper, unless Nagelsmann remains firm on Ter Stegen regardless of match time. Another potential outcome, and perhaps the most interesting one is that this decision is enough to motivate Manuel Neuer to return between the sticks for Nagelsmann’s side.
The starting position is up for grabs more than ever and it could be anyone starting at the World Cup in 2026. Perhaps Ter Stegen will search for a loan and retain his position after all.
