FC Twente teenager Ruud Nijstad has been talking about his ambitions and has said he would love to play alongside Pau Cubarsi at Barcelona.
The 18-year-old has caught the eye in this first season as a professional with the Dutch side and has reportedly attracted interest from top clubs across Europe.
Nijstad spoke to Sportnieuws about his future and revealed his admiration for the Catalan giants.
“I saw him (Cubarsí) play against Cristiano Ronaldo and I really enjoyed watching him,” he said.
“I don’t
expect things to move that fast for me, but playing for FC Barcelona and forming a central defense with Cubarsí would, of course, be my ultimate goal. But for now, I want to continue developing at Twente. I still have a lot to learn here.”
Nijstad has already earned comparisons with former Dutch star Frank de Boer and is certainly a player worth keeping an eye on.
Meanwhile, Barcelona were linked with a move for the defender earlier this summer.
FC Twente’s departing technical director Jan Streuer confirmed the club’s interest but warned Nijstad he would struggle for game time if he made the move now.
