UNC star freshman Caleb Wilson will miss time with a broken hand suffered in the Miami game on Tuesday. Wilson left the game for a bit before returning with his hand heavily wrapped. The wrap clearly altered
what he was able to do on the floor for the remainder of the game. Hubert Davis said after the game that there was “no situation” with Wilson. Imaging done in Miami did not reveal a fracture, but additional imaging done upon their return to Chapel Hill uncovered the break. There is currently no timetable for his return.
It is a really tough break for Wilson, who has been excellent this season. He leads the team with nearly 20 points per game and nearly single-handedly kept the Tar Heels from drowning in the first half of the Duke game. Carolina’s schedule ahead features four teams ahead of them in the ACC standings. If there is any silver lining at all, the injury is to Wilson’s non-shooting hand. Hopefully that means the timetable will be shorter than it would be otherwise, but there is really no way to make this be anything but sad news.
