Alvaro Benito gave his assessment of Real Madrid’s downturn on Cadena SER, pointing directly to a clear regression in the team’s fundamentals after the loss to Liverpool and the draws against Rayo Vallecano
and Elche.
Benito stated: “The team has taken several steps back.” He explained that the progress seen earlier in the season has disappeared: “The team has lost solidity. There is confusion and a lack of tactical clarity.”
On the Elche match, he highlighted Madrid’s attacking issues: “There was no depth, no rupturing runs, and the wide players didn’t offer the support they need to.” Defensively, he pointed to repeated fragility despite adjustments: “Even when the structure changed, the problems continued. The team isn’t strong in the duels and loses control too easily.”
Benito also questioned the overall intensity: “In the second goal conceded, you can see the lack of aggression. These are avoidable mistakes.”
He described the situation as worrying and warned that the decline is structural, not situational: “Many basic concepts are being neglected, and until they’re corrected, the team will continue to suffer.”
