After making his debut for Bayern Munich and a small handful of subsequent appearances towards the end of the season, Bara Sapoko Ndiaye has also been called up to the Senegal national team for this summer’s World Cup. The 18-year-old has enjoyed quite the ride since he joined Bayern from Gambinos Stars Africa academy in Gambia and the video clip doing the rounds on social media of children from that academy watching him make his Bayern debut against St. Pauli in the Bundesliga perfectly illustrates
his trajectory.
Now, just a few months after making his loan move to Bayern, it looks like Ndiaye is set to sign a five-year deal with the German Rekordmeister, as per Senegalese Dsports journalist Khadim Diakhaté (via @iMiaSanMia). He reports that personal terms over a professional contract are already agreed upon for a five-year loan spell just days after he featured for the Senegal national team in a friendly vs the United States in Charlotte. For him, this will be the first major contract of his career so far as he was not able to play for Bayern’s reserves at the time of his initial loan spell since he was a non-European Union citizen, though he did have the chance to train with Grasshoppers FC last summer.
Nonetheless, after recovering from a slight ligament injury earlier this season, it’s been milestone after milestone to for Ndiaye and it now looks like he’ll be getting a long-term Bayern contract on the heels of getting his spot in the World Cup squad with Senegal. It’s no surprise that sporting director Christoph Freund had such high praise for him earlier in the season when he said, “We see week after week he’s adapting better and better. He has quickly become a good part of the team.” (FC Bayern)
“He’s a young talent who provides a lot of pace as a midfielder. Things are going well for him,” manager Vincent Kompany had added.
The sky’s the limit for the youngster and even if he doesn’t clock any minutes at all for Senegal this summer, he has a lot to be excited for and an incredibly bright future.
