A prime-time do-over.
After an embarrassing performance on Monday Night Football to open the season, the Denver Broncos get a chance to settle the prime-time score on Sunday Night Football.
The big difference is that this game is at home. Plus, the Broncos are coming off a good win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The task in front of Denver doesn’t get any easier against the Los Angeles Rams, but playing at home doesn’t hurt.
“I think primetime
games in general are awesome,” Broncos quarterback Bo Nix said to the media earlier this week. “Night-time games at our stadium are awesome. We have a great electric atmosphere. It’s always fun when you grow up, you watch these primetime games. It’s usually when everybody’s watching, when all the TVs are on. You just know it’s a big deal, you know it’s a big game, you know two good teams are playing against each other. For us, we say it all the time, we know we’ll play in bigger games, but right now this is the next biggest one.
“We have to continue to have success in these so that we can have success as an organization. So this is the next challenge, and we’re excited to be on primetime. That’s always a really good thing. That means you have something good going, but you have to keep winning and keep staying on primetime, or ultimately, it doesn’t really matter.”
There’s also something about playing on Sunday Night Football.
As Carrie Underwood’s intro belts out, “Waiting all day for Sunday night.”
“Playing primetime at home is just a different type of vibe, a different type of scenery,” Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain II said to the media. “Having that home crowd to our advantage is pretty beneficial on our end, especially defensively. Having that crowd noise to affect the offense, I think it’s going to be pretty huge, so we’re looking forward to it. It’s going to be another fun and exciting battle at Empower. So we have a great challenge ahead of us, so we just have to prepare and make sure we stay sharp.”
When you get two legitimate Super Bowl contenders, that only makes the potential for a great game even higher.
“I think each week is its own battle,” Broncos receiver Courtland Sutton said to the media earlier this week. “Each week is an opportunity to go out there and showcase our best. I think I might have mentioned this before last year, but it’s not easy to win in this league. I don’t care what a team’s record is; every team has aspirations to go out there and be successful.
“It’s our job to go out there and put our best foot forward. The Rams are a really good team. They played really well last year, they did a lot of things really, really well, and watching the film, they’re continuing to do a lot of things really well. It’s on us to have a great week of preparation on the field, meeting rooms, recovery, the whole nine, to make sure that we can go out here and put our best foot forward going against these guys.”
