In a shock move, Real Madrid and Germany center-back Antonio Rüdiger has decided to end his international career. The player is expected to announce his decision soon:
Rüdiger will not be available for selection under the leadership of Jürgen Klopp. The 59-year-old former Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool
coach will therefore look at different options for his defence when he makes his debut as Germany coach later this month.
The 33-year-old made his debut for Germany in 2014, just before the World Cup that year, in a 0-0 draw with Poland. Since then, he has amassed 86 caps and registered three goals in all international competitions. His forthcoming announcement thus brings an end to 12 years of service for the national team. His sole honor with the German national football team is the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, in which Germany beat Chile 1-0 in the final.
At club level, he has played for VfB Stuttgart, AS Roma, Chelsea, and Real Madrid where he currently plays.
