Short of betraying his brother and telling the fans to kick rocks, Jey Uso did not officially turn heel on Raw. But his actions Monday suggest his babyface days are numbered.
After beating LA Knight thanks
to a distraction from The Vision’s Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker, Jey left Knight to their mercy. As he made his way backstage, Jimmy Uso appeared and urged Jey to do the right thing and help Knight. Specifically, Jimmy asked Jey to help him save Knight.
Jey stopped, looked back at the ring… then kept walking, leaving Knight — and, more importantly, his brother — high and dry.
It was a moment that closely mirrored a pivotal scene from nearly a year ago involving their cousin, Roman Reigns.
At last October’s Bad Blood, Reigns teamed with Cody Rhodes — his bitter rival who ended his 1,316-day reign as Undisputed WWE Champion — to face Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu. Despite their history, Reigns and Rhodes picked up the win, thanks to a timely assist from Jimmy Uso.
After the match, Sikoa and his crew attacked Rhodes. As Reigns and Jimmy started to leave, Jimmy urged his cousin to do the right thing. Reigns hesitated before returning to the ring, backing up Jimmy and saving Rhodes — a moment that solidified Reigns’ face turn.
On Raw, Jey faced a nearly identical test of character. But unlike Reigns, he turned his back.
It wasn’t a full-blown betrayal — but it was a clear choice, and not one a good guy makes. It capped off a night filled with signs that Uso’s time as a fan favorite is all but over.
It began with Uso belittling Jimmy. After blaming their loss to The Vision at Wrestlepalooza on Knight, who served as special referee, Jey shifted his ire to Jimmy. He said The Vision would have taken care of Knight the week before if Jimmy hadn’t agreed to be his tag partner.
When Jimmy asked if he was being blamed, Uso paused, then said, “No.”
Later, Cody Rhodes — Uso’s friend and former tag partner — tried to give him a pep talk. But as Rhodes spoke, Uso stared him down, mean-mugging while eyeing his Undisputed WWE Championship.
In his Raw recap, our Marcus Benjamin noted how Uso echoed the once tyrannical Reigns in the way he deflected blame onto Jimmy. But Jey isn’t just talking like the Tribal Chief — he’s starting to look like him, too.
Against Knight, Uso wore a black tank top and, more notably, black cargo pants — the same style worn by Reigns. As Jey fixates on reclaiming the world title, he’s mirroring Reigns in more ways than one while following his advice to put himself first, which he finally did on Monday.
