Bayern Munich just about earned a draw against neighbors FC Augsburg, overcoming two self-inflicted wounds to finish 2-2. Bayern plays Viking FK in the Champions League in midweek, and Vincent Kompany did not say whether Jonas Urbig could start in that match.
“I won’t say anything about that yet,” Kompany said after the match (as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia). “We’ve just played. The focus was only on Augsburg. We’ll see about the next game.”
The Rekordmeister made two costly errors in the form
of a howler from Manuel Neuer and a parry by Neuer straight into the feet of an Augsburg attacker, who tapped the ball into the net. Although Neuer is realistically not going to be the starter against Viking, there have been calls to make Urbig the starting goalkeeper since last season, which in itself is an indictment of the legendary goalkeeper.
Neuer previously hinted at retiring at the end of the 2026/27 season.
