Another 49ers season, another potentially season-ending injury for Nick Bosa.
Or at least that is the scenario according to a report from NBC Sports Bay Area’s Jennifer Lee Chan, per 95.7 The Game.
Bosa popped up on the injury report on Thursday with a calf problem, and Chan reported that there’s concern that Bosa has suffered a “serious calf injury” and, if he’s not out for the season, he’ll be out for multiple weeks.
The 2022 Defensive Player of the Year missed most of last season due to a torn ACL
he suffered in the Week 3 win over the Arizona Cardinals, whom the 49ers will face in their third game of the season this Sunday.
San Francisco’s pass rush was non-existent without him in 2025, and any kind of prolonged absence would be a hammer blow to a defensive line that already has very thin depth.
After consistently pressuring Matthew Stafford in the season-opening win over the Los Angeles Rams, the 49ers registered four sacks of Malik Willis in their blowout victory against the Miami Dolphins in Week 2.
Bosa’s ability to collapse the pocket was a huge part of the latter performance and, if he is out, it will be substantial pressure on a young group to excel without him.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan is due to hold his final press conference ahead of the Cardinals at 1:35 PT, about an hour after the 49ers practice. Bosa’s status will be the main talking point as San Francisco gears up for a difficult division game.
