Jim Harbaugh is going into his third season with the Los Angeles Chargers, hoping to finally get his team over the hump.
The Chargers have made the playoffs in each of Harbaugh’s first two seasons, but have failed to get out of the wild card round, losing to the Houston Texans in 2024 and the New England Patriots in 2025. Despite his playoff failures, Harbaugh is still considered to be one of the league’s top head coaches.
The Chargers felt they needed to make some changes after last season’s disappointing
loss against the Patriots. They fired offensive coordinator Greg Roman and replaced him with Mike McDaniel, who has served as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins for the past four seasons. Jesse Minter was also replaced by Chris O’Leary after he became the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens.
Harbaugh has a 66-31-1 record across six seasons with the Chargers and San Francisco 49ers, and he’s been to the playoffs in all but one of those years. He has never finished below .500, which is also a sign that he is among the elite head coaches in the league.
Harbaugh knows what it takes to lead a group of men, and he’s proven that in every stop he’s had in his career. The one thing that he doesn’t have on his resume is a Super Bowl win. The culture that he’s built within the Chargers has grown over the years, and it is a big reason why the team remains one of the best in the league since he arrived two years ago.
If he can learn how to make the right changes and push the right buttons, he should be able to get the Chargers all the way to the Super Bowl.
