Good morning, New York Giants fans! The Giants did not win Sunday. They didn’t lose to the Washington Commanders, either. Sunday’s hard-to-comprehend 27-27 tie leaves the Giants alone in first place in the NFC East, and leaves the Commanders searching for answers.
NFC East standings
Giants 3-1-1
Philadelphia Eagles 2-3
Dallas Cowboys 2-3
Commanders 1-3-1
Commanders’ Daniels takes blame for botched final play in OT | ESPN
The Washington Commanders were in position to attempt a game-winning overtime kick to beat the New York Giants. But all they ended up kicking was themselves after botching
the final play in overtime preventing a potential field goal attempt.
Quarterback Jayden Daniels was tackled for no gain with eight seconds left in overtime and, with no timeouts, the Commanders could not stop the clock. So rather than a potential Drew Stevens 42-yard field goal, they were left trying to explain what appeared to be inexplicable in a 27-27 tie with the New York Giants.
“We have to stop the clock,” Daniels said. “We have to know the situation. We have to relay that as an offense. It starts with everyone, top down. Ultimately, it’s on me.”

Why the Giants’ 27-27 tie with the Commanders proved they’re finally different | SNY
John Harbaugh summed it up perfectly, or at least he tried to, after the Giants traveled to Washington, played the Commanders in a monsoon, and tied.
There were moments of dysfunctional, unsightly football. Excitement and euphoria. Super highs. Gut-wrenching lows. Culminating in a 27-27 final.
“I’m happy it wasn’t a loss,” said the coach. “I’m sad it wasn’t a win.”
The truth really is somewhere in the middle. For the Giants, though, it’s hard not to err more on the side of optimism.
They are not Super Bowl contenders. They are not ready to run away with the wide-open NFC East. They have their flaws.
But it’s very clear, through the first five weeks, they aren’t the team they’ve been the past few years. That’s truly all that matters.

Magic Johnson calls out Commanders for clock management debacle vs. Giants | The Big Lead
After the game was over, Johnson did not mince words about the debacle that was the end of the Week 5 game.
“I’m in total disbelief my Commanders had such poor clock management in today’s overtime game against the Giants,” Johnson said. “All we had to do was kick the field goal and we would have won the game!”
Johnson even added the “face palm” emoji for good measure.
