This Week 8 game against the Washington Commanders is a test of the Philadelphia Eagles’ pride.
The Birds’ defense got embarrassed by the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night. Vic Fangio was outcoached. Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis were shoved around. Riq Woolen was torched. Cooper DeJean struggled. This unit should want to turn in a much more inspired effort on Sunday night to get people off their backs.
The Eagles’ offense showed some positive signs against Dallas. It’s impossible not to mention the Cowboys’
defense is a disaster, though. So, we’ll see if Sean Mannion is actually turning a corner or if it’s more of the ineptitude we saw prior to Week 7. The Commanders’ defense is looking vulnerable, especially with Daron Payne and Javon Kinlaw out. Perhaps Saquon Barkley will be able to do enough to help his team win while gutting through the pain he’s playing through.
This isn’t an easy spot for the Eagles. They’re coming off short rest against a Washington side that enjoyed a bye in Week 7. But the Commanders aren’t so good that that edge should guarantee them a victory.
Speaking of guarantees, Washington cornerback Amik Robertson already said the the Commanders are going to beat the Eagles. If this team has any pride, they’ll want to make Robertson look silly.
I do think the Eagles will fight hard on Sunday night. But I don’t think they’ll win. Jayden Daniels will do just enough to give this defense problems as Philly’s offense mostly sputters.
