Your #20 Oregon Ducks faced off against the UC San Diego Tritons on Tuesday night, looking to keep the momentum going after a successful 8 game homestand, in which they went 7-1. It was a pitchers’ duel to start off the ballgame, with Oregon’s first baserunner not coming until the 3rd inning. Oregon would finally break through offensively in the 5th inning, on a Jack Brooks three-run homer to right field, giving the Ducks a 3-0 lead. In the 6th inning, the Tritons would finally have their first batter
reach base, on a leadoff walk. He would be erased via a double play to end the inning, eliminating any sort of UCSD threat.
With two outs in the 7th, the Tritons would at long last break up the no-hit bid by starting pitcher Miles Gosztola, but once again no runs would come out of it, as the runner would be stranded at first base. The following inning, Jax Gimenez would add an insurance run to the Ducks total with a solo homer to right, while in the 9th inning Maddox Molony would add a solo shot of his own, and Jack Brooks would add another hit to his night with an RBI double to center, clinching the win for Oregon 6-0.
Man, what a dominant outing from Miles Gosztola. 7 innings, 1 hit, 8 strikeouts, 1 walk. Never let a runner past 1st base. Absolutely incredible stuff from the big lefty on Tuesday. If this pitching staff can continue to show that they are capable of dominating like this, and the offense can continue to show up in big spots, this Ducks team is going to be a very difficult team to eliminate come tournament time. And I can’t wait to see how they’ll do.
As always, ‘Sco Ducks.
