Julian Nagelsmann was manager of the German national football team for almost three years, and his tenure was not the kind that Germany fans hoped for from the former Bayern Munich manager. Nagelsmann’s replacement, Jürgen Klopp, spoke more positively about him.
“I’ve been doing this job for 25 years; Julian Nagelsmann was 13 back then. I have immense respect for him,” Klopp said in a recent press conference (as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia). “I had a lot of trouble playing against his Hoffenheim
side with Liverpool. He’s an exceptional coach, 100%.” Klopp’s Liverpool played Nagelsmann’s Hoffenheim side in the Champions League playoffs in the 2017/18 season; Liverpool won 6-3 on aggregate.
Nagelsmann was seen as one of the brightest young coaches in Europe, performing miracles with a modest Hoffenheim side which earned him a move to RB Leipzig, Bayern and then the German national team. Although his stock has since slumped due to subpar performances with Die Mannschaft, he is only 39-years-old and he still has enough time to prove why he used to be one of the most promising tacticians around.
