Immediately following his decision loss to Conor Benn on today’s Netflix card, Regis Prograis announced his retirement from the sport of boxing while talking to Fight Hype. Prograis showed all the heart and toughness he’s been known for over the years, but it was evident in the fight he was physically compromised and is now the former world champion is calling it a career.
“This was my last fight, for sure” Prograis said. “This was my last one, even before the fight got announced I knew my next fight was going
to be my last fight…This was a perfect storybook ending. I’m not going to lie, if I’m writing a book this is the perfect way to end it, somebody bigger, somebody supposedly stronger. I mean, we fought in front of a stadium, 70,000 people here. I love it, man.
“Honestly, in my career I did everything I ever wanted to do. So I really can’t [not] be happy…I was terrified of fighting but I pushed through it…I told all my partners I did not want to fight, I wanted to pull out like a month ago I wanted to pull out this fight. I was going to pull out today, I was going to pull out yesterday…I did get injured a few times in camp but to be honest, nothing was affected tonight in the fight.”
Prograis ends his career with a 30-4 (24 KO) career record and we wish him and his family all the best in his life outside of the ring.
