The Green Bay Packers have three losses by a combined 9 points in 2025. While the defense has held up their end of the bargain, the offense has been, at times, disjointed, undisciplined, and lacking in core philosophy. That’s the recipe that’s heating up head coach Matt LaFleur’s seat, despite being 5-3-1.
New scene. Enter: The New York Giants.
The Packers head into Sunday with the chance to face what on paper appears to be a “get-right” opponent in New York. The Giants are just 2-8 and in full rebuild
mode, having just fired their head coach and tapped Jameis Winston — a veteran known more for chaos than clean play — as their starter. With a history of high highs and extremely low lows, Winston will helm an injury-battered team, including a struggling offensive line and woefully understocked skill position cupboard.
On the defensive side, the Packers continue to show strength against the run, ranking near the top of the league for rush yards allowed, and will face a slightly better than middle-of-the-pack Giants rushing attack. Meanwhile the Giants’ run defense is among the worst in the NFL, which could provide a reprieve for the Packers own struggling ground game.
So yes — this appears to be the kind of opponent a desperate Packers team can and should beat. But we’ve told ourselves that story before.
